Advice from Our Students

How many times a week or month do you practice?

I am always doing yoga, I try to go to class at least three days a week but I find myself incorporating yoga into the way I move and breath. I do a lot of half lifts through the day to keep my back loose and utilize a wheel at night before bed.

What would you say to someone who is just starting a practice? For those just beginning in yoga depending on your physical condition do not become frustrated with your abilities, your muscles will stretch and become accustomed. Stay positive about what you can do and keep in mind that negativity breeds negativity.

What made you want to start practicing yoga? I started practicing when after years of abuse in the military I reached a point where I could not stand up right and could barely walk, the medical profession has a long standing practice of loading you up on pain pills and muscle relaxers which only targets the symptoms and not the root cause of pain which in my case was the muscles being so tight and stressed that it was slowly crippling me.

What brings you back to your mat? Introspection is what brings me back to my mat, it gives me a chance to check in not only physically but emotionally as well. A chance to ponder my thoughts and emotions, sort relevance and importance of the trials of the day and how much weight I should let them have.
